Stamp grads going to next level

The Swan Valley Stampeders are very proud to announce that 3 defensemen from the 2012-13 team have made the jump to Major Junior.

 

Landon Peel of Virden, MB was called up to the Kootenay Ice of the WHL last season. The offensive minded 18 year old defenseman had registered 9 goals 23 assists for 32 points in 37 games last season before being called up on January 11th.  Landon has already signed in Kootenay for this upcoming season.

 

Travis Howe from Falmouth, MA recently signed with the Charlottetown Islanders in the QMJHL. The 6’4 220lbs defenseman made his presence known last season as a physical stay at home defenseman. In his rookie season with the Stampeders, Howe had 7 assists and 88 pims in 31 games.  Although not registered as an ‘official’ goal the highlight of Travis season with the Stampeders was a shoot out winner versus Steinbach late in the season. Howe has made his presence known in the Quebec league leading the pre-season in penalty minutes with 39 pims in 6 games (7 fights).

 

The third and youngest member of the Stampeders to make the jump to Major Junior is Garrett Johnston of Winnipeg, MB. Johnston a 6’1 smooth skating offensive defenseman was defenseman and rookie of the month in the MJHL for November last season. In Swan, Garrett total 10 goals and 25 assists good for 35 points as a 17 year old rookie. In 6 pre-season games with the Moncton Wildcats Johnston has produced 1 goal 3 assists in 6 games.
