IG Wealth Management – Pre Game Report

Stampeders face Oil Caps to open 2026

Stampeders: 6-18-3-1 (5th in West) Power Play % (21.6% 9th in MJHL) Penalty Kill (67.9% 12th in MJHL)

Oil Capitals: 17-10-1-0 (2nd in West) Power Play % (24.2% T1st in MJHL) Penalty Kill (72.5% 11th in MJHL)

It’s the first game of the new year for the Stampeders as they welcome the Virden Oil Capitals to town for just the second time this season.

These two clubs haven’t faced each other in quite some time and will look to begin the second half of the 2025-26 season on a good note. Virden recently made a long trip up north to face the Northern Manitoba Blizzard just last night, dominating the game and winning 7-2. While the Stampeders have not played since Dec. 13, where they lost a tight 2-1 game to the Steinbach Pistons.

These two teams have had quite a last 10 games to their schedule, as the Oil Caps have a record of 5-4-1-0 in their last 10, while the Stamps are trying to break a 10 game skid, which has seen them go 0-6-3-1.

The Stamps continue to play with a short-handed amount of players in their lineup, this leads to local product and AP player Dayson Martin into the lineup for tonight’s game. Martin currently leads the Parkland U18 Rangers in goals (25), assists (27), and points (52).

Players to Watch:

Stampeders: Riley Fequet, Ethan MacTavish, Gavin Bartha

Oil Capitals: Bryce Bryant, London Hoilett, Ty Plaisier
