When the 2018-19 MJHL season started for the Swan Valley Stampeders, the coaching staff was tasked with setting up this year’s leadership core. The chosen leader as team captain was Roblin’s Jaden Townsend.
The 19-year-old has been with the organization since 2016 and he continues to excel in every situation. Townsend has 36 goals and 31 assists for 71 points in 150 games.
Jaden is also enjoying a career-year with the Stamps’. In 45 games, the Roblin native has chipped in 34 points (17G). He’s already well passed last year’s total of 26 points.
“It was a natural fit for our team as Jaden’s a strong leader and he leads by example and always does the right things on and off the ice,” said Barry Wolff, Head Coach and General Manager. “We count on him to give his all every single night and that’s what he does. He’s a great example for the younger guys on our team and he’s without a doubt a great leader for us.”
Jaden who still has one more year of eligibility has embraced his role as captain on a team that is full of 20-year-olds.
“It’s an honour to be the captain of the Swan Valley Stampeders,” added Townsend. “It’s great to lead this team and keep the guys focused towards a common goal by finding ways to motivate everyone.”
