Stamps sweep weekend, hold on for 3-2 win
Another night, yet another comeback win for the Stampeders who have now won 6 of their last 7 games, as they defeat the Selkirk Steelers on Saturday night by a 3-2 score.
To start, Selkirk really came out firing, as it didn’t take as long to open the scoring in this one compared to last night, as Wyatt Witham scored his third of the weekend to get the game started.
With energy, the Steelers wanted to assert dominance over the Stampeders, not letting anything get by the hosts whether it was a chirp, hit, or even just a turnover. They looked to be in control to begin the game.
The 1-0 score would change to 2-0 in the second, as Griffin Krone scored on the power-play to make it 2-0, and really push the Stampeders back on their heels.
However, the Stampeders were able to get into the game as Wylie Smith scored his third as a Stampeder to cut the deficit to 2-1. After that, the Stamps were able to get back on the power-play and it led to Ben Groome scoring to tie the game at two for the third period.
Into the final 20 minutes, it only took a back-handed pass by Noah Stott early in the third, which bounced off a Selkirk defender in front and into the net to give the Stampeders a 3-2 lead.
That was all it took, as the Stamps hung on to win 3-2. Sam Bastien made 35/37 in the win.
