Stampeders win second straight in 6-3 win over Monarchs
The Stampeders kicked off the weekend with a successful Multicultural Night on Friday night, doubling up the Winnipeg Monarchs 6-3.
The game didn’t begin in the Stampeders favour though, as it was the Monarchs who kick started the scoring thanks to Kade Stringer on the power-play. The score remained 1-0 until Ethan MacTavish scored the tying goal late in the frame to make it 1-1 after 20 minutes.
The middle frame started off a lot like the first, as Coltan White was able to make it 2-1 in the early goings of the second, however, the Stampeder offence awakened with three unanswered goals, starting with Riley Fequet on a rebound for his fourth, Darren Hunt then picked up the puck in the neutral zone, took a hard shot on net and banged home the rebound for his fourth, and then Finlay Johnston got a sweet pass from Stampeder goaltender Easton Falls who passed up the ice right to Johnston, who beat around the defender and sniped his third to make it 4-2.
The third was mostly all Stampeders, as MacTavish would add his second of the game early in the period. The Monarchs would get back on the board courtesy of Ethan Hulme but it wouldn’t matter much as Bennett Muller would score from behind the goal line to make it 6-3.
Easton Falls made 21/24 saves on the night for his second win of the season.
Next: The Stampeders welcome the Portage Terriers to the Corral tomorrow at 7 pm to finish the weekend.
