Paull Funeral Home & Crematorium Three Stars of the Week (Dec. 10 – Dec. 17)

Every Monday we will be awarding three players who had a big week and giving them stars. We will be doing this week-to-week with points being collected throughout the season. The top three players will be recognized and presented an award during our final home game of the season.

The Stampeders closed out the 2023 portion of their MJHL schedule this past weekend, going 1-1 and oddly finding themselves just 13 points out of a playoff spot. The first half of the year hasn’t gone to plan, so what is the plan? Throw the script out and start again? The team has it in them to win as we all witnessed Saturday night in Swan River. The never quit attitude Barry Wolff has instilled into all his players certainly showed in a 7-5 win to close out the year.

The Stampeders didn’t fair very well against the Virden Oil Capitals but did find themselves hanging around and using the mistakes against the Oil Capitals Friday night in Virden. Despite the outcome, Swan Valley was led by their star goaltender, Gage Stewart. He may not have received a star this week but we all know he certainly deserves one ever night he plays.

Swan Valley has entered a three week Christmas break and will return to action Friday, Jan. 5 against the Virden Oil Capitals.

Three star point system is as follows:

1st Star = 3 points

2nd Star = 2 points

3rd Star = 1 point

THREE STARS (Dec. 10 – Dec. 17)

3rd Star

Alex Walicki continues to produce for his team. The 20-year-old from Calgary, AB scored in back-to-back games helping his team to victory Saturday night at the Centennial Arena.  Walicki sits first in team scoring with 34 points (11G, 23A).

2nd Stars

Josh Danis returns to the three stars of the week selection after another solid weekend in Stampeder colours. The 20-year-old scored a pair of goals and assisted on another during Saturday night’s 7-5 win over Neepawa. The Calgary, AB product earned the first star of the game for his performance. Danis sits third in team scoring with 22 points (8G, 14A).

1st Star

Trey Sauder remains at the top of the mountain as we head into the Christmas break. The 20-year-old from Swan River collected four points (1G, 3A), in two games for the Stampeders last week. Sauder sits second in team scoring with 29 points (11G, 18A).
