Paull Funeral Home & Crematorium Three Stars of the Week (Feb. 19 – Feb. 16)

It’s time for another Three Stars of the Week, which is brought to you by Paull Funeral Home and Crematorium. Every Monday we will be awarding three players who had a big week and giving them stars. We will be doing this week-to-week with points being collected throughout the season. The top three will players will be recognized and presented an award during our final home game of the regular season.

First off, the three stars of the week will close down in two weeks’ time in order to hand out the top three awards on March 17. Secondly, we have made it to the double points portion of the season.

The Swan Valley Stampeders went 2/3 last week, outscoring their opponents 16-14 during those three games.

The Stampeders started the week off right, defeating the MGEU West Division leaders the OCN Blizzard in a Wild West showdown. Both teams combined for 12 goals in a very entertaining game at the Centennial Arena. Jakob Jones had a statement game, scoring three goals, and adding two assists to help lead his team to victory Tuesday, Feb. 22.

The Stampeders followed that up with a hard-to-swallow 6-5 loss to the Winnipeg Freeze Friday night. Swan Valley started flat and fell behind 3-0 before finding some traction and making things interesting in the third period. It was all for not as the Stampeders had their four-game win streak snapped.

Great teams find a way to rebound, and the Stampeders did just that Saturday night at the Centennial Arena. Swan Valley found a way to take down the high-flying Winkler Flyers, 4-3 in an overtime thriller. Collin Jennings was able to pick up his first-ever hat-trick at the Junior A level, scoring his third of the night 42 seconds into the extra frame.

The “Three Stars of the Week” is brought to you by Paull Funeral Home & Crematorium, and will be awarded week-to-week with points being collected throughout the season. The top three will players will be recognized at the end of the season.

Three stars point system is as follows:

1st Star = 6 points

2nd Star = 4 points
