Paull Funeral Home & Crematorium Three Stars of the Week (Jan. 14 – Jan. 21)

Every Monday we will be awarding three players who had a big week and giving them stars. We will be doing this week-to-week with points being collected throughout the season. The top three players will be recognized and presented an award during our final home game of the season.

The Swan Valley Stampeders had a much better week but, still cannot seem to string together wins. A solid week of hockey none-the-less as the future of Stampeder hockey has been on full display over the last week. The new guys have started to settle in and have started to help offensively and, Kyle Abrahamson, what? The 19-year-old had himself a week, playing 146:19 seconds in three games last week stopping an insane amount of rubber sent his way. More on him in the three-star selection below.

Swan Valley deserved a much better fate in Dauphin last week but penalty trouble late in the third period didn’t help their cause, falling 4-2 on the road. Swan followed that up with a 4-1 loss to Niverville and a huge 5-1-win Saturday night against the Winnipeg Blue, something the team needed after a tough week.

A busy week ahead – Swan Valley will play three games this upcoming week, one at home against the Dauphin Kings Tuesday night at 7pm and the next two on the road with stops in Waywayseecappo Thursday and The Pas Saturday.

Three star point system is as follows:

1st Star = 3 points

2nd Star = 2 points

3rd Star = 1 point

THREE STARS (Jan. 14 – Jan. 21)

3rd Star

Landen Gulutzan jumps back in to the mix after a pair of power play goals for the Stampeders last week.  The 19-year-old missed parts of the season due to injury and since the Christmas break has been showing up, and showing out with his offensive skills. The Calgary, AB product sits third in team scoring with 19 points (7G, 12A).

2nd Star

Aidan Taylor continues to impress the Swan River fans every time he steps on the ice, that and he is lighting quick. The 19-year-old speedster helped out offensively last week collecting four points (3G, 1A) in three games. The St. Albert, AB product now sits with 10 points on the year (6G, 4A).

1st Star

Kyle Abrahamson stole the show last week and for that, he takes the top spot this week in the three star selections. The 19-year-old goaltender was recently acquired by the Stampeders and has since turned heads with his play. The Esko, MN, USA product turned aside 65/69 shots against Dauphin, came on in relief Saturday night stopping 24/24 shots he faced in 26:19 of play Friday night. The 6’4” 195lbs goaltender followed that up with a 40 save performance, collecting his first win in the MJHL. Abrahamson posted a .963 SV% and a 2.05 GAA for the Stampeders last week.
