Paull Funeral Home & Crematorium Three Stars of the Week has returned for another season, so let’s get it started.
Every Monday we will be awarding three players who had a big week and giving them stars. We will be doing this week-to-week with points being collected throughout the season. The top three players will be recognized and presented an award during our final home game of the season.
The Swan Valley Stampeders are coming off a pair of weekend games to kick off the MJHL Regular Season. The team split their games and sit 1-1 after opening weekend.
Swan dropped a tough one Friday night in Dauphin, losing 7-1 in an eye-opener for the team, to say the least. The Stampeders returned to home ice Saturday, defeating the Blizzard 6-3 in their MNP Home Opener.
In the community | The Stampeders have been busy in the community early on this season, volunteering in schools, joining the Terry Fox Run, BBQs, etc. If you ask any one of the 25 Stampeders, they will all say the same thing, it’s about giving back and that they love doing it.
MNP Home Opener | 25 years of Stampeder Hockey was celebrated briefly Saturday night with an intro, player introductions and a ceremonial puck drop by Dallas Anderson, the first-ever player to be signed by the Swan Valley Stampeders.
Three star point system is as follows:
1st Star = 3 points
2nd Star = 2 points
3rd Star = 1 point
Check back every Monday for the Paull Funeral Home & Crematorium, Three Stars of the Week.
THREE STARS (Sept. 17 – Sept. 24)
3rd Star
Darius Makse collected the Stampeders’ first goal Saturday night during their home opener. The 20-year-old went on to add an assist on the insurance goal of the game to help his team pick up their first win of the season.
2nd Star
Callum Halls is looking to take the next step this season and he started the year off with a goal and an assist against the Blizzard. The 19-year-old Brandon, MB product scored the team’s second goal Saturday night and added a helper on Griffin Ayotte’s empty net goal to help his team claim victory on home ice.
1st Star
Alex Walicki may have been slightly overlooked during the player introductions Saturday night (my apologies Alex, many issues led to this mishap), but he certainly left an impression during the MNP Home Opener. The Calgary, AB product picked up an assist on the team’s first goal, then scored a beautiful short-handed, breakaway goal to give the Stampeders a 3-0 during the first period. Walicki scored the insurance goal into an empty net, leading his team to victory against the Blizzard.
