The Swan Valley Stampeders started their quest for the Turnbull Cup with a huge 6-3, game 1 win over the Dauphin Kings Friday March 8th.

Brendan Arnold opened the scoring at 4:11 banging home his first of the post season on the power play. Grady Hobbs scored nine minutes later and the Dauphin Kings held a 2-0 lead after the first.

The Stampeders found another gear in the middle frame scoring five goals and giving the Swan River faithfull an exciting period of Junior A hockey. Hometown kid Josh Tripp scored from his backside at 7:53 picking up his first of the post season. Alex Uryga jumped through the entire Dauphin team off the ensuing face-off and scored a beauty six seconds later to tie the game at two. Before the goal was announced, Tucker Scantlebury deflected home his first of the post season 11 seconds later. After forty minutes of play the Stampeders held a 5-2 lead.

Tucker Scantlebury picked up his second of the game at 15:04 of the third period on a mad scramble in front of the Dauphin net. Cole DeKoninck scored 22 seconds later but it wasn’t enough as the high flying offence of the Stampeders proved to be to much for the Dauphin Kings in Game one. Final score 6-3 Swan.
