Stampeders Claim A Point But Fall 5-4 in OT to Neepawa

The Swan Valley Stampeders put together a solid 60 minute effort Friday night in Neepawa, but couldn’t find the second point, falling in overtime.

The Titans used home ice advantage to grab the games first goal 3:27 into the game as Dawson McCann beat Jackson Miller for his fourth of the year.  Will Brown, who just returned to the team, collected his first of the year late in the first period to tie the game 1-1.

Newcomer Ben Groome collected his first of the year 1:10 into the middle frame, tapping home a loose puck to give the Stampeders a 2-1 lead. Dobie Unrau added to the Stamps lead just over three minutes later, also scoring his first of the year to give Swan Valley a two goal lead. Colton Alexander scored back-to-back goals and Tim Tychonick added goals before the end of the period, giving the home squad a 4-3 lead.

Ty Easton added his first of the year, and first in the MJHL, 2:45 into the third period. Both goaltenders closed the door the rest of the third period, forcing overtime and a much needed point for the Stampeders.

Jace Larkins played OT hero Friday night, scoring 4:16 into the overtime period.

The Stampeders will have a quick turn-around as they will face the same Neepawa Titans Saturday night at the Yellowhead Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30p.m..
