Stampeders Defeat Selkirk 4-3 in Overtime Friday Night

The Swan Valley Stampeders needed 56 seconds of overtime to earn their third win of the season Friday night at the Centennial Arena.

Swan’s offence was led by Jakob Jones (2G, 1A), Landen Gulutzan (2A), Trey Sauder (2A), while Elias Giaccari-Dimitriou stopped 42 shots for his second win of the year.

Swan Valley found a way to use home ice advantage against Selkirk Friday night, defeating the Steelers 4-3 in overtime.

Griffin Ayotte opened the scoring at 7:56 of the opening frame, snapping home his second of the year.

Jakob Jones added his first of the night, stealing the puck from Steelers goaltender Jack Hodgins, wrapped around the net and scored a short-handed goal at 13:08 of the second period. The Steelers went on to score three straight goals, Mathieu Moreira (15:14) of the second period, Nick Giasson (9:16) of the third and Colton Crysler (12:39) of the third to take the lead. Captain Ashton Fishley scored his second of the year at 18:01 of the third, tying the game 3-3 and sending this one to overtime.

Before the end of the third Selkirk took a holding penalty and for the first time this season the Stampeders were headed to overtime.

Jakob Jones scored his second of the night 56 seconds into the extra frame and the Stampeders found a way to win.
