The Swan Valley Stampeders dropped their second straight game, losing 3-2 to the Selkirk Steelers Friday night at the Centennial Arena.

The Stampeders found themselves trailing 5:45 into tonight’s contest as Mathieu Catellier swatted home his eighth of the year on the power play. Callum Fortin pulled the Stampeders even at one, on the power play, with just 49 seconds left in the first period.
Brad Fortin gave the Stampeders their only lead of the game, scoring 5:04 into the second period, collecting his fourth of the year. Selkirk scored back-to-back goals (Jordan Hughesman & Mathew Gerke), 50 seconds apart late in the second period to take a 3-2 lead.
Neither team could find any offence in the third period resulting in the Stampeders suffering a 3-2 loss on home ice, dropping their record to 11-14-0-2.

The Stampeders will regroup and get back to work as the two teams will meet once again Saturday Dec. 11 at the Centennial Arena. This will be the final home game of 2021 as the Stampeders will finish off the first half of the season on the road in Portage la Prairie next weekend.
Before tonight’s contest, Head Coach and General Manager Barry Wolff acquired 19-year-old Goaltender Brock Moroz from the Winkler Flyers of the MJHL for future considerations.
Moroz posted a 3.36 GAA and a .863 SV% in two games this season with the Flyers. Prior to that, the 6’1” 161lbs La Salle, MB product posted a 5.45 GAA and a .822 SV% with the Pembina Valley Twisters of the MMJHL (2020-21) and dressed in 27 games for the Pembina Valley Hawks U18 AAA posting a 2.88 GAA and a .914 SV% (2019-20).
“With Dylan Black on the IR (Injured Reserve), we needed to add a backup goaltender moving forward,” said Wolff. “We aren’t sure how long Black will be out so we needed to add a key piece to fill that void.”
