The Swan Valley Stampeders rough start continued Saturday night in La Broquerie, falling 2-1 to the Steinbach Pistons, pushing their losing streak to 10 games.
The Stampeders effort was much better tonight but the offence has completely dried up. Gage Stewart has done an unbelievable job in the Stampeder net since taking over. The 20-year-old Division I commit stood on his head for the Stampeders over the past two games, stopping 80 of 83 shots he faced. He has done everything but score goals for his team on this road trip.
Jackson Kostiuk opened the scoring at the 5:16 mark of the second period Saturday night, scoring on a 2-on-1, collecting his third of the year. The Stampeders finally broke their 172 minutes scoreless drought as new comer Dobie Unrau deflected one past Cole Plowman at 18:19 of the second period, tying the game 1-1. The comeback was short lived at Dawson McCann deflected one past Stewart 3:20 into the third period and the Pistons held on for a 2-1 win on “home ice.”
