Stampeders Fall 3-2 in a Shootout Friday Night in Virden

The Swan Valley Stampeders dropped a 3-2 shootout decision on the road Friday night in Virden.

The Stampeders offence was led by Trey Sauder and Jakob Jones who each collected a goal while Kobe Grant took the loss in net stopping 39/41 shots he faced.

Sauder opened the scoring Friday night at Tundra Oil and Gas Place, swatting home a loose puck that beat Owen Larocque at 11:48 of the opening frame.

Ethan Guthrie was able to tie the game late in the second period collecting his first of the year at 18:55 setting up an interesting third period.

Jones gave the Stampeders a 2-1 lead, scoring his fourth of the year, on a breakaway, at 2:19 of the third period. After a bad penalty against, Virden capitalized 15 seconds into the power play as Dean Gorchynski tapped in a cross-ice pass at 17:24, tying the game 2-2 and forcing overtime.

Despite several high-quality chances for both teams in the extra frame, no one could solve Grant or Larocque, sending this game to a shootout.
