Stampeders Fall 5-2 to the Steinbach Pistons Friday Night at the Centennial Arena

Swan River, MB. – The Swan Valley Stampeders fell 5-2 in a hard fault battle to the Steinbach Pistons Friday night at the Centennial Arena.

Swan Valley’s offence was led by Jakob Jones (1G) and Alex Walicki (1G) while Kobe Grant suffered the loss in net.

The Story

The Stampeders brought their A game for a majority of tonight’s contest, leading 1-0 after forty minutes of play.  Jones finished off a beautiful little play down low, scoring his 11th of the season at 14:37 of the second period.

The wheels fell off the cart in the third period and the Pistons found a way to score five goals. Dawson Milliken scored 2:20 into the third period, tying the game 1-1. Nicolas Mikan added his sixth of the year, giving the Pistons their first lead of the game nine minutes later. Landon Roberts scored at 15:08 and Davis Fry added to Steinbach’s lead two minutes later. Walicki was able to throw the monkey of his back, scoring his first goal as a Stampeder at 18:17 of the third period cutting into the Pistons lead. Roberts all but sealed the deal with an empty net goal with 58 seconds left in the game and the Stampeders win streak was snapped at two games.

Bonus Notes

  • Stampeder defenceman Collin Jennings served game 2/2 of his suspension that he received for a hit-from-behind call that took place Saturday Nov. 12 against the Winnipeg Blues.
  • Alex Walicki scored his first MJHL goal.

Saturday, Nov. 19 home game against the Winnipeg Blues is Ag Appreciation night.  We invite all Ag Project sponsors to the game for an evening planned upstairs in the warm room with goodies being served all night.
