The Swan Valley Stampeders held their Annual General Meeting on July 13 inside the Westwood Inn Banquet Room, to discuss with the public the current situation the hockey club is in.
To recap, former president Danielle Gordon-Broome began the evening by welcoming guests, thanking our sponsors for the support and beginning the AGM.
Former board director Evan Morden gave a quick run down of financial numbers from the 2025-26 season. Game night numbers went up from the previous year, from $39,709 in 2025, to $40,484. For total planned events numbers, a slight increase from 2025’s $134,168, to $139,149 in 2026.
Overall, the Stampeders brought in $517,755 compared to last years $457,079.
Following the financial report, Stampeders Governor and Vice President Warren Clark gave a report on the situation in Junior Hockey. Not much has changed in the recent months with the 2026-27 season on the rise.
Head Coach and General Manager Josh Tripp did not have a report, but with all players eligible for return, there is still the possibility of having relatively the same team as last season. A trade with the Winkler Flyers from last season’s trade deadline recently was completed, with the Stampeders bringing in an 08′ defenceman. Meanwhile recruiting and final touches are coming along.
The Stampeders say goodbye to four board members, the names being President Danielle Gordon-Broome, Evan Morden, Ken Kirkpatrick, and Jackie Mullin. The Stampeders thank them for their time on the board.
A fifth board member also has separated from the board itself into a staff role. The Stampeders announced the hiring of Ricky Barker for their Director of Marketing role for the 2026-27 season. This means there are currently 5 open board seats to be filled.
With no rodeo booth and a damaged Ag Project, the Stampeders are looking at other ways to try and get some extra fundraising dollars. The Swan Valley Stampeders will bring back their golf tournament, recognizing three individuals who have passed on, but their memory continues in the form of the Stampeders. This year’s golf tournament will be a memorial tournament for Rick Reich, Dave Bettesworth, and Lorne Henkelman. All three played crucial roles for the organization and will be etched in Stampeders history forever.
