Stampeders Out Muscle OCN In A Spirited Win Wednesday Night

The Swan Valley Stampeders muscled their way back into the win column Wednesday Night on home ice, beating the OCN Blizzard 5-0.

Carter Cockburn, Mattias Dal Monte, and Frazer Dodd lead the way picking up a goal and assist each, while Mikael Foucher stopped all 18 shots he faced for his first MJHL shutout.

The OCN Blizzard came in to tonight’s contest being one of only two teams the Stampeders haven’t beat this season.

It was Swan River, MB product Carter Cockburn who opened the scoring 15:26 into the opening frame, picking up his 8th of the year. Frazer Dodd would increase their lead just over three and a half minutes later, and the Stamps lead 2-0 after 20 minutes of play.

The Stampeders would pick up two goals throughout the middle frame, increasing their lead to 4-0 after 40 minutes. Mattias Dal Monte would wire home his 10th of the year at 6:04, and Callum Fortin would pick up his 6th of the year at 14:18.

Daunte Fortner would rip one under the bar at 18:38 of the 3rd period, and the Stampeders skated to a 5-0 win on home ice.

The Stampeders record now sits at 17-10-2, moving them back into 4th place in the MJHL standings.

The team will now get ready for a 3-in-3 road trip this weekend with back-to-back games against the Steinbach Pistons Friday and Saturday, and will finish off the road trip with a stop in Winnipeg Sunday.
