The Swan Valley Stampeders score four goals in the second period, downing the Dauphin Kings 6-3 on home ice Friday night.
Tonight’s home opener was full of energetic fans, lots of goals, and a huge Stampeder win to kick off the 2019-20 season on home ice.
The Stamps’ found themselves trailing 9:56 into the first period as Nakodan Greyeyes would beat Micheal Davis at 9:56. The Stampeders would send 14 shots on net, but couldn’t solve Mattias Smith, finding themselves trailing 1-0 after twenty.
The Stampeders put on their work boots, so to speak, and would score four goals in the middle frame. Nathan Carl (Carter Cockburn) would tie the game 2:33 into the second period. Tommy Cardinal (Luke Beerman) would hook up just over six minutes later and the Stampeders would gain their first lead of the game. Dauphin would tie the game just over five minutes later as Leeam Tivers would find the back of the net. Captain Leyson Coleman (Josh Maucieri) would snipe his first of the year less than a minute later. Tommy Cardinal (Josh Maucieri) would work an odd man break which resulted in a beautiful goal with just a 1:18 left in the middle frame. Shots after forty minutes of play were 26-21 in favour of Swan.
Frazer Dodd (Josh Maucieri) would team up 4:57 into the third period, scoring the teams first power play goal of the season. Nakodan Greyeyes picked up his second of the game less than a minute later which cut the Stamps lead to two. Josh Maucieri would score a beautiful short-handed, breakaway goal for his first of the year, and the Stampeders went on to beat their highway 10 rivals 6-3.
The two teams will go at it again tomorrow (Saturday September 21) in Dauphin to finish off a home-and-home.
