The Swan Valley Stampeders snapped their two-game losing streak Saturday night, defeating the Winnipeg Blues 5-1 at the Centennial Arena.
Swan Valley’s offence was led by Aidan Taylor (3G), Riley Fequet and Amar Powar each collected a goal while Kyle Abrahamson picked up his first MJHL win stopping 40/41 shots he faced.
After a scoreless first period the flood gates opened so to speak as both teams got on the board in the second. Aidan Taylor opened the scoring 20 seconds into the period, picking up his fourth of the year and first of the night. Winnipeg responded on a wicked shot by Matthew Dewey that went crossbar and in two minutes later. Riley Fequet regained the Stampeders lead just over six minutes later, collecting his seventh of the year. Taylor, collected a loose puck off a lost face-off draw and turned on the jets, skating wide on the defender and ripping one home for his second of the game, short-handed, at 13:22.
Taylor completed the hat-trick, snapping home a loose puck in front of the net 25 seconds into the third period becoming the first Stampeder to collect a hat-trick this season. Amar Powar scored a short-handed, highlight reel goal at 11:50 of the third and the Stampeders skated to a 5-1 win Saturday night at the Centennial Arena.
