Stampeders Win 4-3 on Country Music Night at the Centennial Arena

Swan River, MB. – The Swan Valley Stampeders found a way to win Friday night, defeating the Virden Oil Capitals 4-3, improving their record to 14-9-1-1 and 10-3 on home ice this season.

Swan Valley’s offence was led by Jakob Jones (1G, 2A) , Collin Jennings (2G) and Justin Keck (1G) while Kobe Grant picked up his eighth win of the year.

The Story

The Stampeders’ 60 minute efforts lately have allowed them to find some ground in the MGEU West Division, defeating the Virden Oil Capitals 4-3 on country music night.

Jennings got the Centennial Arena rocking Friday night, scoring his third of the year 3:53 into the opening frame. Naton Miller tied the game at 18:46, silencing the home crowd a bit. Just before the period ended, Keck was sprung on a breakaway, scoring his 12th of the year with less than a minute to play in the period and giving his team a 2-1 lead heading into the locker room.

Joey Bielik answered back for the Oil Capitals at the 8:59 mark of the second period, scoring a short-handed marker to tie the game 2-2. Jennings said anything you can do, we can do better, tucking home a short-handed marker of his own three minutes later. Trevor Hunt tied the game late in the second period, setting up a fantastic third period.

Jones sent the crowd into a frenzy, scoring his 12th of the year at the 7:41 mark of the third period. Grant turned aside everything sent his way in the final frame, backstopping his team to their 14th win of the season.

The Stampeders will head to Virden on Saturday, Nov. 26 to finish off a home-and-home series with the Oil Capitals.
