Stampeders Win Eighth Straight, Become The MGEU West Division Champions With A 6-3 Win

Virden, MB. – The Swan Valley Stampeders didn’t only push their win streak to eight straight games, they locked up first overall in the MJHL West Division with a 6-3 win over Virden Thursday night.

The Stampeders offence was led by Collin Jennings (2G), Steven Arp (2A), while Callum Halls, Griffin Ayotte, Trey Sauder and Warren Marcotte all scored singles. Kobe Grant turned aside 37/40 shots he faced to claim his 26th win of the season.

 The Story 

The Swan Valley Stampeders travelled south to do battle with one of the hottest teams in the MJHL since the Christmas Break, but it was the Stampeders who prevailed, claiming first overall in the MGEU West Division Thursday night.

Callum Halls opened the scoring, re-directing home his fourth of the season on an unreal play by Adam Rajsigl at 10:56 of the first period. Davis Chorney deflected the game tying goal past Kobe Grant at 16:10 and the first period ended tied 1-1.

The second period was back-and-forth between the two top teams in the West. Griffin Ayotte cleaned up a rebound at 3:38 giving the Stampeders a 2-1 lead. Virden answered back, scoring two quick goals to take a 3-2 lead until the 18:20 mark of the middle frame. That’s when the Stampeders power play went to work and Warren Marcotte tied the game on a point shot that beat Eric Reid blocker side.

The Stampeders added three more in the third period – Trey Sauder (7:44), Collin Jennings (12:02 and 19:46) to claim a 6-3 win on the road. Kobe Grant stopped 37/40 shots he faced for his 26th win of the season.
