Stamps Fall To The Steelers 5-4 in OT

The Swan Valley Stampeders wrapped up their Old Dutch MJHL Player Showcase this afternoon with an overtime loss to the Selkirk Steelers.

The Stampeders once again found themselves trailing in the first period as Brett Namaka opened the scoring at the two minute mark. Nate Halvorsen added to the Steelers’ lead at 13:20 beating Michael Davis for his fifteenth of the year. Swan River’s own Josh Tripp cut into Selkirk’s lead at 19:22 and the Stamps trailed 2-1 after twenty minutes of play.

The Selkirk Steelers added to their lead in the second period as Ryan Sokoloski picked up his thirteenth of the year at 6:07. Nate Halvorsen scored his second of the game at the twelve minute mark and the Steelers held a 4-1 lead after forty minutes of play.

Troy Quinn gave the Stampeders life in the third as he let a heavy shot go from the point that beat Zach Bennett at 3:09, pulling the Stamps within two. Josh Tripp continues to find the back of the net as he scored his second of the game and league-leading twenty-fourth goal at 9:19 to pull the Stamps within one. With Michael Davis on the bench and the extra attacker on, it was Troy Quinn who fired home his second of the game at 19:07 which sent this afternoons contest into overtime.

Despite the Stamps hard work early on in OT, it was Conner Barley who beat Michael Davis over the shoulder at 2:22 and the Steelers skated to a 5-4 win over the Stampeders. Final shots on goal were 39-30 for Swan Valley.

The Stampeders record now sits at 22-6-3-2 which moves into first place in the MJHL Standings. The next action for Swan will be Saturday December 15th and Sunday December 16th at home in a weekend matchup against the Steinbach Pistons.
