Stamps Pick Up A 7-3 Win Over Virden Saturday Night

The Swan Valley Stampeders skated to a dominating 7-3 win over Virden on home ice Saturday night.

Leyson Coleman lead the way with a goal and two assists, Tommy Cardinal scored twice, while Mikael Foucher stopped 47/50 shots he faced for his 20th win of the year.

Leyson Coleman would kick things off tonight, picking up his 10th of the year just 3:33 into the opening frame. Josh Maucieri would score just over seven minutes later to put the home team up 2-0. Hunter Andrew would respond for the Oil Capitals, banging home a loose puck 48 seconds later.

Both teams would score a pair of goals in the middle frame. Josh Beauchemin picked up his eighth of the year at 4:28 to give the Stampeders a 3-1 lead. Virden scored back-to-back goals (Jayden Wojciechowski at 8:21, Jack Einarson at 16:41) to tie the game at three. Tommy Cardinal would give the Stamps’ their lead back, wiring home his 19th of the year, on the power play, with 17 seconds left in the middle frame.

Cardinal would regain the Stampeders two goal lead, scoring short-handed 53 seconds into the final frame. Carter Cockburn (2:46), and Luke Beerman (15:19 PP), would each pick up a goal as the Stampeders skated to a dominating 7-3 win.

Tonight’s win pushes the Stamps record to 31-16-5. Swan returns to action tomorrow evening against the Selkirk Steelers. The game is a presentation of the Westwood Inn. *Note* game time is 6:00pm.
