Stamps roll in home opener

The Stampeders played host to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines for their home opener on Wednesday night.

It didn’t take long for the Stamps to get the crowd involved, as Shane Roulette kicked off the scoring just over a minute into the game, with his 4th goal in 4 games.  The Stampeders did not let off the gas, peppering Wolverines goalie Ethan Petersen with 20 shots in the period.  Before the 1st was out, Tanner Garnham and Sam Harris were able to add to the lead, both with their first MJHL goals.

The 2nd period saw more of the same, as the Stampeders were able to use their speed to create numerous chances.  Rookie Matt Osadick would get in on the scoring early in the 2nd with his 1st MJHL goal coming 2:32 into the second frame.  Wayway would cut the lead to 2 with goals from Vautour and and Withers, before Roulette got back on the scoresheet with his 2nd of the night.  Osadick would assist on the goal to give him a 3 point evening and the games 1st star.

The 3rd period saw the team exchange goals and was highlighted by a Dawson Waddell shorthanded breakaway goal  on a chance created by a heads up play by rookie defensemen Zach Halvorson.

Swan Valleys Brett Evans made 23 saves on 26 shots for his second consecutive win.

The Stampeders are back at it on Friday night when they play host to the Neepawa Natives.  Tickets are on sale at Atkinson Sports Excellence or available at the door.  Come of down and kick off your long weekend with some fast paced Stampeders hockey.
