Stamps Tame The Dogs

The Swan Valley Stampeders were in Portage tonight to finish off a 3 game road trip.

The opening frame had both clubs going back and forth. Brett Evans made an unbelievable save with 7:45 remaining in the period to keep the game scoreless. The 1st period came to a close tied at 0 and the shots 10-8 Portage.

The Stampeders came out flying in the middle frame as Josh Tripp opened the scoring at 1:26 picking up his 18th of the year. The Stampeders kept the pressure on and just 17 seconds later Matt Osadick deflected a shot past Lasse Peterson to move Swan ahead 2-0. Portage got on he board as Ty Enns beat Evans at 11:45. Dane Hirst regained the Stampeders 2 goal lead as he tapped in his 1st of the season at 15:59. Portage climbed back within 1 as Jeremy Leipsic scored with just 4 seconds left in the 2nd period. After 40 minutes of play the Stampeders lead 3-2 and the shots were 24-23 Portage.

Portage evened the score 1:19 into the 3rd period as Jeremy Leipsic tapped home his 2nd of the game. Josh Tripp added his 2nd of the game at 16:04 of the 3rd as he roofed it over a sprawled put Lasse Peterson. Noah Basarab added his 16th of the year at 18:14. Ty Enns added one late for the Terriers but it wasn’t enough as the Swan Valley Stampeders skated to a 5-4 win over the Terriers. Final shots were 40-35 for the Portage Terriers.

With the win the Stampeders take 4 of 6 points this weekend and improve to 23-21-5 on the season.

Matt Osadick’s 1 goal 1 assist effort earned him 3rd star, and Josh Tripp’s 2 goal 1 assist effort was awarded 1st star.

Next action for the Stampeders will be Wednesday February 14th in Neepawa. Puck drop is at 7:30p.m.
