Stamps Win 2-1 In OT, Move Into Third Place

The Stampeders come away with a huge overtime win Sunday November 3, defeating the Selkirk Steelers 2-1.

The Swan Valley Stampeders had an enormous week, picking up 7 out of 8 points, and going 3-0-1 over the course of just 5 days.

Tonight’s game was the first time the two clubs met this season and it didn’t disappoint. Both teams would come to play defensive hockey tonight in a low scoring affair, that had a very chippy feel all night.

Selkirk’s Riley Portner would open the scoring at 15:17 of the first period.

Swan would respond in the middle frame as Carter Cockburn tipped home a Mattias Dal Monte’s point shot at the 16:30 mark of the second period.

Scoring completely dried up in the third period as both Levi Mitchell and Mikael Foucher would shut the door.

It took 4:21 of overtime before the Stampeders would find the game winner. Tommy Cardinal picked up a loose puck skated down the wing, beat his defender and drove to the net, tucking home his 5th of the year.

The Stampeders have now improved their record to 11-4-2, and now sit in third place overall in the MJHL.

Swan Valley will return home for their next three games which starts Wednesday November 6th against the OCN Blizzard. Puck drop is at 7:30pm.
