Steinbach Beats Swan 6-0, Take A 3-0 Series Lead

The Swan Valley Stampeders were back on home ice tonight as they looked to climb back into the series against the Steinbach Pistons in Game 3.

The Stamps came out flying to open up the 1st period creating a couple of quality chances in tight. The Pistons opened the scoring as Braden Purtill beat Brett Evans at 9:03. The Stampeders regrouped and pressed the Pistons but could not solve Mathew Thiessen. The opening frame closed out with the Pistons leading 1-0 and the shot count 19-7 for Steinbach.

Despite constant pressure by the Stampeders in the opening minutes of the 2nd, Steinbach added to their lead at 4:03 as Brady Tatro beat Evans glove side. Bradley Schoonbaert added his 1st of the post season 46 seconds later. The Stamps continued to push the play but couldn’t solve Pistons goaltender Mathew Thiessen. Curtis Ireland added another for Steinbach at 18:12 and the Pistons held a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.

Daniel McKitrick added his 1st of the post season at 8:44 of the 3rd. Austin Heidemann scored at 16:43 and the Steinbach Pistons went on to defeat the Stampeders 6-0. Final shots on goal were 44-30 in favour of the Pistons.

The next action for the Stampeders will be tomorrow night. Puck drop for game 4 will be 7:30pm.
