Swan Drops Game 1 To Steinbach

The Swan Valley Stampeders returned to the post season tonight after a one year hiatus. The Stamps made their way to Steinbach to take on the Pistons in Game 1 of the best of 7 series.

The Stampeders found themselves trailing 7:16 into the opening frame as Tanner Mole beat Ethan Peterson to pick up his first of the post season. Pistons added to their lead when Braden Purtill scored at 14:27.  After 20 minutes of play the Stampeders found themselves trailing 2-0.

The middle frame had both organizations go back and forth as both goalies stood tall. Steinbach added to their lead as Austin Heidemann beat Ethan Peterson on a cross crease pass at 12:11. The middle frame closed out with Steinbach leading 3-0.

The 3rd period had Swan push the pace as they tried to climb back into the contest. Swan pulled their goalie late for a 6 on 4 power play but it was the Pistons who grabbed a short handed empty net goal at 14:41. Steinbach went on to win 4-0 and now leads the best of 7 series 1-0.

Game 2 will be Saturday March 10th in Steinbach. Puck drop is at 7:30pm.
