The Swan Valley Stampeders gave a valiant effort Saturday night at the Centennial Arena but fell to the Virden Oil Capitals 3-2.
Swan Valley’s offence was led by Alex Walicki who collected two goals while Gage Stewart stood on his head, stopping 37/40 shots he faced in the loss.
The Stampeders are on the verge of something as their play is elevating but the losses are piling up quickly.
Alex Walicki scored a highlight reel goal, collecting his 8th of the year after completely undressing the Oil Caps defencman at 3:42 of the second period. The Oil Capitals scored three straight goals, two by Trevor Hunt (14:18) and Cole Slobodian (17:23, PP) in the second period, and Noal Chastko at 8:08 of the third period. Alex Walicki added his second of the night scoring on the power play at 14:44 of the 3rd period but it was all the Stampeders offence could muster Saturday night, falling 3-2.
