Swan Valley Falls 6-5 in Home Opener thriller to the Northern Manitoba Blizzard

The Swan Valley Stampeders stumbled out of the gate Friday night in their home opener against the Northern Manitoba Blizzard.

Falling behind 3-0 in the opening 20 minutes of play, the Stampeders found their first goal of the 2024-25 season, which came off the stick of defenceman Darren Hunt just past the midway point of the second period. The Blizzard added one early in the third period but the Stampeders never gave up. Aidan Taylor collected his first of the season at 3:58 pulling them back to within two. Thomas Phillips added one at just over two minutes later regaining their two-goal lead. The Stamps mounted the comeback, scoring back-to-back goals four minutes apart tying the game with 1:11 left in the third period. The Blizzard played spoilers with 17 seconds left in the game as Keenan McNeill beat Elias Giaccari-Dimitriou and the Stampeders fell 6-5.

The two teams will be right back at it tomorrow night in The Pas. Puck drop is set for 7:00p.m. at the Roy H. Johnston Arena.
