The Swan Valley Stampeders and the Waywayseecappo Wolverines will meet tonight for the first time this season.
The federal government has made today (Sept. 30) National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day is to honour the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. Before puck drop this evening, both teams will be a part of a special opening ceremony that features Blue Sky Drum Group and a prayer from Jim Cote.
According to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines press release, anyone wearing an Orange Shirt, hoodie or jacket will be allowed into the game for free.
The Wolverines and the Stampeders certainly started the 2021-22 MJHL Regular season in different directions. Swan Valley dropped their first two games to the OCN Blizzard before rebounding with two back-to-back wins of their own to hold a 2-2 record. Wayway, on the other hand, started the season going 3-0 before losing their first game to the Virden Oil Capitals last Saturday.
The Wolverines hold down first place with just two points separating them and the Swan Valley Stampeders. Swan currently sits in fourth place with four points.
The high flying offence of the Wayway Wolverines is something the Stampeders will need to match or completely shut down in order to win any games against their opponent. The Wolverines scored 21 goals throughout their last four games while only giving up 12. The Stampeders offence hasn’t showed up much in the first four games this season only scoring nine goals while giving up 11. Something that will need to be corrected for the Stampeders to catch, and even overtake, the Wolverines for first place in the West Division.
