Stampeders welcome Oil Capitals to town to open 2026
It’s the start of a new year for the Swan Valley Stampeders, as they continue their 2025-26 season this weekend against the Virden Oil Capitals on Sunday at the Swan River Centennial Arena.
The Stampeders finished the first half of the season with a record of 6-18-3-1, which has them in 5th in the MGEU West Division. Despite the disappointing record, the season is far from over, as the Stampeders currently sit 10 points back of the fourth and final playoff spot in the West, held by the Wayway Wolverines.
One thing’s for certain, the Stampeders are hungry to get back to their winning ways, as they are on the bitter end of a 10 game losing streak. Within those 10 games, four of the losses have come in extra time, and five of the games have been by one goal differences.
The Stampeders also had a more extended break than most teams, as they’re final two games were post-poned due to the winter storm in Southern Manitoba. With a rejuvenated group looking to turn things around, the second half will be a very interesting thing to follow if you’re a Stampeders fan.
Your top five leading scorers of the first half are as follows;
Ethan MacTavish (15 goals, 11 assists, 26 points)
Riley Fequet (8 goals, 15 assists, 23 points)
Gavin Bartha (6 goals, 14 assists, 20 points)
Trace Langan (8 goals, 10 assists, 18 points)
Ben Groome (5 goals, 11 assists, 16 points)
In other news, Stampeders forward Ethan MacTavish was named to the MJHL’s RBC Community Ambassador team for the 2025-26 season. We’d like to formally congratulate Ethan once again!
We’d also like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and hope everyone had a great holiday. Make sure to find any board member to get your Holiday Cash Lotto Tickets. The draw goes on Jan. 16.
Sunday’s game goes at 7 pm.
