Swans Win Streak Snapped at 3

The Winkler Flyers made their way to Swan River tonight as both teams were looking to keep their winning streaks intact.

The Stampeders has won the last 3 games while the Winkler Flyers were coming off 2 wins in 2 nights.

The Stampeders found themselves trailing just 2:38 seconds into the 1st period as Brett Opperman beat Brett Evans to open the scoring. Swan battled back sending 10 high quality shots on net but couldn’t beat Troy Martyniuk. As the opening frame drew to a close the stamps found themselves trailing 1-0 and behind in shots 15-10.

The 2nd period had the Stampeders and the Flyers trading chances as Martyniuk and Evans stopped everything sent their way. The persistent Stampeders for-check paid off as Matt Osadick grabbed his 6th of the year, finally solving the Winkler netminder at the 10:40 mark of the 2nd. Swan Valley continued to push looking for the go ahead goal through out the remainder of the middle frame but couldn’t find the back of the net. After 40 minutes of play Swan and Winkler were tied 1-1 with the shots 27-16 still favouring the Flyers.

The Stamps Shane Roulette added a go ahead goal just 1:59 into the 3rd period as he let a shot go up high that beat Martyniuk. The Flyers tied the game at 8:55 when Weiland Parrish beat Evans on a back hand shot. The Flyers regained the lead at 11:06 as Matt Christian picked up his 16th of the year. The Stamps pulled their goalie and with the extra attacker on, it was Winklers Nolan McGuire who scored into the empty net, sealing a 4-2 victory. The Flyers snapped Swans winning streak at 3. Final shots were 40-22 for the Winkler Flyers.

Next action for the Swan Valley Stampeders will be this Wednesday as they host the OCN Blizzard. Puck drop is 7:30pm at the Centennial arena.
