The Stampeders Hockey Club is in need of billet homes for the 2016-17 season. A key part of our Stampeders Hockey Program Many of the Stamps, as well as other hockey players who leave home to pursue hockey, depend on billet homes.  While several of the Stamps hockey team includes players from Swan River and surrounding areas, others hail from across North America.  Each of the out of town players relies on billet families to be an integral part of their success with the Stampeders. Being a billet family plays a major role in our team’s success both on and off the ice.  It takes special people to open their homes and hearts to our players and we do our best to ensure our players are placed in environments that provide care, compassion and safety.  We ask that our players be treated like any other member of the family.  It is important that the player respect the rules of his host family and the host family respect the rules of the Stampeders hockey club.   Billet families are responsible for, but not limited to, providing the following basics: – healthy meals and snacks – private bedroom – access to laundry facilities – internet and telephone access Billet families will receive the following as compensation: – $300/month per player – invitations to exclusive events One of our billet families is local resident Rhonda Mills.  She has served as a billet for seven years.  She is also the Billet Coordinator again for this year’s Swan Valley Stampeders. Her reasons are that she knows personally the important role a billet plays in the lives of a player who moves to another community to play hockey.  She has well over 40 different players in her home since she started billeting and has developed a bond that continues today with many of them. Evan Last is the second Stampeder to commit to furthering his education and hockey career this week by signing with the Trinity Western Spartans of the BCIHL. Last came to the Stamps from the Winkler Flyers and filled a void left by graduating forwards. Evan had a solid season with great positional play and a commanding leadership role in the dressing room. Last will be studying business administration at Trinity Western, which is located in Langley, British Columbia. We wish Evan all the best and thank him for his time and efforts here in the Valley!  

The Swan Valley Stampeders are pleased to announce 20 year old goaltender Zach Degraves has accepted a scholarship to the University of Alberta – Augustana Campus for the 2016-17 season! Gravy will be suiting up for the Augustana Vikings Men's Hockey Team, who compete in the ACAC with teams such as SAIT, Grant Macewan, NAIT and many other notable Alberta Colleges. "After a stellar season with the us [Stampeders], proving he is most definitely capable to carrying the load of a starting goalie and excelling at it, we couldn't be happier to see Zach moving on and continuing his hockey career." – Assistant Coach Landon Kroeker. Degraves will be studying kinesiology/physiotherapy. We wish Zach all the best moving forward on and off the ice and thank him for his time and efforts here in the Valley!!
