“Our staff has worked extremely hard this past winter. We look forward to adding some excellent prospects that will hopefully wear a Stampeder jersey and play in the MJHL one day.” – Director of Player Personnel, Darren Webster.

The organization has drafted several key players in the past:

  • Forward Stephan Vigier from Notre Dame de Lourdes, MB, was selected 3rd overall in the 2005 Batman draft.
  • Forward Parker Johnson from Elkhorn, MB, was drafted in the 2nd round, 16th overall in 2016.
  • Forward Callum Fortin from Souris, MB, was selected in the third round, 27th overall in 2016
  • Forward Jagger Thomas from Boissevain, MB, was selected in the 5th round, 47th overall in 2009.
  • Forward Brian Harris from Wawanesa, MB, was selected in the 2nd round, 16th overall in 2014 bantam draft.
  • Forward Matt Osadick from Grande Point, MB, was drafted in the 3rd round, 28th overall in the 2015 bantam draft.

“With the draft moving up to April 26th it should build some excitement within the league. It’s been pretty quiet for over a month now, so it’ll be important for the draft eligible players to get some recognition. The talent pool is really deep this year and fairly evenly spread throughout all regions. The league has even added a new twist this year where teams to have up to 8 draft selections depending on what they choose to do with auto protects. Draft day is what the scouting staff works for all winter. It’s crucial for an organization to be able to build competitive teams from within and the draft plays a major part in that process.” – Head Scout, Mitchell Kirkup.

Prior to the MJHL Draft, teams will submit up to two (2) Auto-Protect selections from the designated home zone. New to this year’s draft procedures, teams will have the option to decline an Auto-Protect selection and defer that pick to Round 7 or 8 of the draft. Full details of procedure updates along with Auto-Protect selections will be released on Monday, April 20.

“The MJHL Draft is a very important event for the league and its member teams.  We are very excited about the talent level across the province in what should be a very thrilling month for the 2005 draft class with both the WHL and MJHL Drafts taking place in April.” – Director of Operations, Kevin Saurette.
