IG Wealth Management – Pre Game Report

Stampeders look for redemption hosting Wolverines

Stampeders: 4-2-0-0 (4th in West) Power Play % (32.9% 1st in MJHL) Penalty Kill % (86.4% T4th in MJHL)

Wolverines: 4-1-0-1 (3rd in West) Power Play % (22.7% 5th in MJHL) Penalty Kill % (86.4% T4th in MJHL)

After falling apart in the last 7 minutes of the third period in Fridays game, the Swan Valley Stampeders look to redeem themselves tonight against the Waywayseecappo Wolverines for game two of their six game regular season series.

The opponent:

Wayway continues to impress this season. After being down 3-0 in the third period in Swan on Friday, they managed to score 5 unanswered goals in the final 7 minutes to down the Stamps 5-3. They’re speed and skill definitely took over the game and left the Stampeder defence in lieu. However, in the 53 minutes the Stampeders played, they were the better team. Not letting Wayway get much chances and playing solid defence. Swan will look for a similar formula, but not letting the foot off the gas pedal.

Deciding Factors:

As stated before, the Stampeders must learn to play with a lead and play a full 60 minutes. It’s never going to be easy, but grinding out games until the very end is a must for a Stampeder team who is hungry to make an impression on the MJHL. Getting too comfortable and sitting back is not an affordable option for this Stampeders team, and they’ll look to earn a big two points tonight.

Home ice advantage is always a huge thing in hockey, and the Stampeders are playing in their 4th game of this 5 game home stand. Every home game has seen solid crowds and the continued energy in the arena will light the fire the Stampeders need.

Being physical and hard to play against is something the Stampeders must get back to doing. We seen flashes of it on Saturday against the Blues, but against a West Division rival like Wayway sets the tone for a long and fun season series to watch. Playing with an edge and finishing checks is something Swan must take point on.

Players to Watch:

Stampeders: Trace Langan, Dylan Ruff, Easton Falls

Wolverines: Carter Haney, Treycen Wuttunee, Cale Livingston

Tonight’s game will be on GX94 radio with Benny Walchuk! You can listen in on the game from there or head to FloHockey for the live broadcast between the Stampeders and Wolverines.
