Oil Caps Defeat Swan 6-3

The Virden Oil Capitals snap the Swan Valley Stampeders two game win streak Saturday night.

The Stampeders jumped out to a early lead as Shane Roulette beat Riley McVeigh blocker side at 6:03. The Oil Capitals answered back on the power play as Justin Lee let a point shot go that beat Brett Evans at 8:46. Virden took the lead with 31 seconds remaining in the 1st as Graeme Hore beat Evans through a screen. The opening frame ended 2-1 and the shots 13-11 for Virden.

The Oil Capitals added to their lead at 1:35 of the 2nd when Landyn Cochrane grabbed his 9th of the year. The Stampeders responded on the power play at 10:13 when Quintin Sudom let a blast go from the point that beat Riley McVeigh over the glove. Tyler Kirkup regained the 2 goal lead for the Oil Capitals at 14:49 picking up his 27th of the season. The middle frame ended with the Oil Capitals leading 4-2 and holding a commanding 31-19 lead in the shot department.

Landyn Cochrane added his 2nd of the game at 1:35 and later completed his hat trick at 11:34. Noah Basarab’s power play goal at 11:55 moved the Stamps within 3 but it wasn’t enough as the Oil Capitals went on to defeat the Stampeders 6-3 to complete the home and home series. Final shots on goal were 44-35 for Virden.

Next action for the Swan Valley Stampeders is at home Tuesday January 30th against the OCN Blizzard. Game time is 7:30p.m.
