The Swan Valley Stampeders put up a heck of an effort Friday night but came up short, falling 5-3 to the Niverville Nighthawks.
The Stampeders found themselves in trouble early on Friday night, allowing the Nighthawks to score just 21 seconds into the game. Swan Valley was able to tie the game as the new guy, Gavin Bartha found a loose puck in front of the goal and tucked home his first MJHL goal.
Dawson Zeller gave the home team a 2-1 lead 7:29 into the second period but the Stampeders other new guy had an answer. Jake Giacobbo deflected home his first MJHL at 15:55 of the middle frame, setting up an interesting third.
Niverville scored two goals 17 mins apart giving the Nighthawls a 4-2 lead with just over two minutes to play. Trace Langan scored his second of the year with 46 seconds left but an empty net goal by Matteo Speranza at 19:53 sealed the win for Niverville.
Swan Valley will regroup and be right back at it tomorrow night at 7:30pm in Portage.
