The Swan Valley Stampeders are Searching For Board Members as the AGM Approaches

In just one week the Swan Valley Stampeders will hold their annual general meeting and the public is welcome to attend and learn what’s been happening within the organization throughout the past year.

“It’s exciting times for the team as we come off last season as division leaders and we head into the upcoming season celebrating 25 years of Stampeder hockey,” said Vice-President Danielle Gordon-Broome. “The team is financially healthy and we have a wonderful, experienced staff to lead us to success once again both on and off the ice.”

The one area the team has been struggling in is finding volunteers to assist throughout the season as well as board members to fill some seats that current members will be vacating.

“Volunteers don’t need to be board members and board members don’t necessarily need to be volunteers, but we do need both,” said Gordon-Broome.  “On the board, we need individuals who are passionate about the community and the team to come join us. While we do need some individuals with both management and financial strength, we also just need fresh ideas on volunteer recruitment, fundraising options and things like that. We all have strengths and weaknesses but every single person has something they can bring to the table and contribute. When it comes to volunteers there is always a need for game day supports, ticket sellers for raffles and booth workers when it comes to rodeo.”

If you have any interest in helping out the team by volunteering or seeing how you could fit into a board role, please attend the annual general meeting or contact Cramer at 204.281.4255.

“Being on the board has been a positive experience for me,” said Gordon-Broome. “The level of commitment is adaptable to members’ needs and schedules and meetings are kept to a minimum. For me, joining the board was a non-financial way to give back to an organization that gives so much back to the community we live in. Throughout the season, these players spend countless hours volunteering in schools, helping residents with odd jobs, working at events, coaching minor hockey… the list goes on. Being part of making sure they have a welcoming organization to come to is a fundamental piece of making it all work.”

The annual general meeting is set to take place Wednesday, June 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Westwood Inn. You must have a membership to vote. You can purchase in advance by visiting stampedershockey.com and clicking on Become a Member under the Fans tab or at the door.
