Stamps Pick Up A Point In Winkler

The Swan Valley Stampeders didn’t get the result they wanted, dropping a 3-2 decision in overtime to the Winkler Flyers Saturday night at the Winkler Centennial Arena.

Callum Fortin and Trevor Schroder would pick up a goal each, while Parker Rey stopped 41/44 shots he faced in the loss.

Despite giving up the games first six minutes of penalties, the Stampeders would find a way to open the scoring. Lane Kirk would send a shot on net that was bobbled by Dorin Luding, and Callum Fortin was Johnny on the spot, cleaning up the rebound at 16:47 of the opening frame.

Swan Valley would use their power play early in the middle frame to jump ahead 2-0, as Trevor Schroder would score his 18th if the year 1:53 into the period. Winkler would find a way to respond, as Garrett Szeremley beat Parker Rey for eight of the year late in the second.

Sulivan Shortreed scored the only goal in the third period, snapping home his 26th of the year on a two-on-one at 7:08.

Both teams would push to find the go ahead marker, but Rey and Luding would shut the door, forcing overtime Saturday night.

It didn’t take long to find a hero tonight, as Sulivan Shortreed would score his second of the game 28 seconds into the extra frame, securing a 3-2 win for the home team.
