Swan Valley Star and Times Game Day Report

The Swan Valley Stampeders are coming off a massive win on home ice against the Neepawa Titans last Saturday and look to continue their winning ways at the Centennial Arena tonight against the Virden Oil Capitals.

The Stampeders have had a bit of a roller coaster of a start to the 2021-22 season, losing two – winning two, losing one – winning one. It certainly is a tough way to continue through the entire year and make the playoffs. Hopefully, the Stampeders can get off on the right foot tonight and continue on with a winning streak to help close the gap on second place in the West Division.

A shining light – the Stampeders are set to host a new team tonight at the Centennial Arena in what should be a very fun night at the Corral. It’s Halloween night – dress up and receive a treat bag upon entry. There will be a costume parade on the ice during the first intermission with the top THREE costumes winning an additional prize. We will also see the return of Timbits hockey, sponsored by Tim Hortons Swan River, in the second intermission as the little ones will take to the ice and show off their stuff to the best fans in the MJHL. It is also Scare Away Hunger night – anyone who brings a non-perishable food item will be able to drop their stuff off on a table on the north side of the front entrance once you enter into the arena lobby. On the table will be a draw box and papers to enter your name for a chance to win a great prize pack of Stampeder gear. Ok, back to the hockey portion of the story. The Virden Oil Capitals have seen a very similar start to the Swan Valley Stampeders, up and down and sitting with a 5-6-1 record – tied for third in the West Division with the Stampeders.

Two very similar teams on paper and that in itself is what makes this series interesting and exciting.

Head Coach and General Manager Barry Wolff has tinkered with his lineup for this evening’s contest. Returning to the lineup is Defencemen Jayden Mosiondz. Dylan Black is expected to get the start in goal. Not dressing tonight will be Lare Pahtayken, Jordan Gagnon, Dharan Cap, Dayvan Bull and Jayce Nikbakht.
