3 Stars of the Week

The Swan Valley Stampeders had themselves a busy week, playing 3 road games in 5 nights. The club went 2-1 last week picking up a 3-1 win in OCN Tuesday January 22nd, suffered a 2-1 loss Friday January 25th in Winkler, and then rebounded with a 4-1 win Saturday January 26th once again in Winkler. 

Swan Valley also regained the number 1 spot in the Subway MJHL Power Rankings last week, but slipped to number 18 in the weekly top 20 CJHL rankings.  The team continues to chase down 1st place overall in the MJHL, as they remain 9 points back of the Portage Terriers. 

Swan Valley hasn’t been able to string together wins all month, but they still have an impressive record of 6 wins and 3 losses. Over the course of the 9 games, the Stamps have scored 27 times while only giving up 16 goals. 

The Swan Valley Stampeders “Three Stars of the Week” is a new segment brought to you by Paull Funeral Home & Crematorium. The three stars will be awarded week-to-week with points being collected throughout the remainder of the year. The top three will be recognized at the end of the year. 

Three stars point system is as follows:

1st Star = 3 points

2nd Star = 2 points

3rd Star = 1 point

THREE STARS (Jan 21st-28th)

3rd Star

Merek Pipes played in two games last week, going 1-1 against the 8th place Winkler Flyers. 

Friday nights game, Pipes turned aside 28/30 and posted a .928 SV% in a 2-1 loss. Saturday night was an unbelievable performance by Pipes as he stopped 25/26 (14 shots in the 1st period) and posted a .961 SV% in a 4-1 win in Winkler.  

The 20-year-old from Victoria, BC sits 4th in the league with a 2.32 GAA, and has moved into 2nd with a .928 SV% in 22 games with Swan Valley. 

2nd Star

Brian Harris continues to bring his game, as he put forth another hard working week in Stampeders colours. 

The Wawanesa, MB product picked up 1 goal and added 2 assists in 3 road games last week 

The 20-year-old sits 5th in team scoring with 8 goals, adding 28 assists for 36 points in 46 games played. 

1st Star

Josh Tripp is putting together arguably one of his best seasons in a Stampeder jersey. Tripp lead the way last week, picking up 5 points in 3 games. 

The Swan River, MB product scored 1 goal and added 4 assists throughout the week. 

The 20-year-old currently sits 1st in the MJHL with 30 goals and 39 assist for 69 points in 46 games. 

Next action for the Stampeders will be Tuesday January 29th in Swan River against the OCN Blizzard. Puck drop is 7:30p.m. Tickets are available at Atkinson’s Sports Excellence or at the door.
