The Swan Valley Stampeders are pleased to announce that 20-year-old forward Noah Wilson has committed to play for the Vancouver Island University Mariners in Nanaimo, B.C. for the upcoming season.
Wilson, a native of St. Albert, Alta., very quickly became one of the leaders in the dressing room for the Stampeders. In 52 regular season games, he collected 13 goals, adding 23 assists. He went on to add six assists in 12 playoff games.
“I am really excited to attend a great school like Vancouver Island University,” said Wilson. “Playing college hockey has always been a dream of mine, and for it to come true is something I am very thankful for. I would like to thank my parents and family for the endless amount of time put into my hockey career thus far. As well as the Swan Valley Stampeders’ entire organization, including coaches Barry Wolff, Dakota Mason, and Darren Webster and the rest of the people who made Swan the perfect place to grow my game and end off my junior career. Finally, I would like to thank all of my teammates, without them none of this is possible.”
“We are very excited to be welcoming Noah and his family to Vancouver Island University,” said VIU Manager Andrew Riddell. “Every game I watched of the Stampeders this past season; Noah stood out every shift. An obvious asset of Noah’s game is his elite level of skating, rarely would I see Noah get beat to a puck anywhere on the ice. He has the compete level we are looking for and is a player who clearly can be relied on to play in all situations. Whether that’s special teams, or taking a last-minute face-off to close out a game. At VIU we emphasize a positive and supportive culture, and from the first phone call with Noah, I could tell he would be an amazing fit for our hockey program. We are thrilled Noah choose VIU, and we look forward to welcoming him to the Island in September.”
“We are very happy for Noah, and so proud of him,” said Stampeder Head Coach/General Manager Barry Wolff. “From day one Noah made an immediate impact on the ice and in our locker room. VIU is a great school and this is a great opportunity for Noah to further his education and hockey career.”
Vancouver Island University plays in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL).
The Swan Valley Stampeders continue to provide a great platform that allows our players to stay focused and committed to their long-term goals of making it to the next level.
Congratulations Noah Wilson on his recent commitment to Vancouver Island University.
