Paull Funeral Home & Crematorium Three Stars of the Week (Oct. 8 – Oct 15)

Every Monday we will be awarding three players who had a big week and giving them stars. We will be doing this week-to-week with points being collected throughout the season. The top three players will be recognized and presented an award during our final home game of the season.

The Swan Valley Stampeders had a busy week, playing three games in five nights. Swan didn’t fair very well last week going 1-2 and now sit with a record of 3-5. Last Tuesday the Stamps travelled to Neepawa to face the Titans and got shutout 2-0. Swan had a much better showing Friday night at the Centennial Arena, beating the Selkirk Steelers 4-3 in overtime. Swan Valley then fell to the Steinbach Pistons 6-3 Saturday night.

Sitting at the bottom of the MGEU West Division, they need to find a way to win more than one game at a time in order to keep pace early on.

SHOTS ON GOAL | Swan has now given up a total of 327 shots against in eight games this season, that’s an average of 40.87 per game. In the last three games alone the Stampeders have given up 131 shots against as Liam Vanderkooi and Elias Giaccari-Dimitriou continued to be peppered in the net.

Three star point system is as follows:

1st Star = 3 points

2nd Star = 2 points

3rd Star = 1 point

THREE STARS (Oct. 8 – Oct. 15)

3rd Star

Callum Halls jumps into the third star spot this week as he collected one goal and two assists in three games last week. The 19-year-old Brandon, MB product added two assists in Friday night’s 4-3 win over Selkirk and added a power play goal against Steinbach Saturday.

2nd Star

Jakob Jones had another solid week for the Stampeders, collecting two goals against the Selkirk Steelers. His first goal came on a blunder from their goaltender, scoring a short-handed marker Friday night. He scored his second of the game on the power play in overtime to help Swan solidify their third win of the season. Jones currently sits third in team scoring with five points (3G, 2A).

1st Star

Landen Gulutzan continues to impress every time he steps on the ice. The 19-year-old Calgary, AB product added three assists in three games played last week, two of those coming on the power play. Sometimes we forget that scoring goals comes with help, and Gulutzan supplied three helpers for his squad last week.  The 6’1” 180lbs forward brings a calming presence and unreal vision up front.

Honourable Mention | Trey Sauder (2A) and Ashton Fishley(2A).

The “Three Stars of the Week” is brought to you by Paull Funeral Home & Crematorium.
