Stampeders Push Win Streak To Six

The Swan Valley Stampeders extended their win streak to six games, defeating the Winkler Flyers 3-2 Saturday February 9th. 

Crosby, MN, USA native Josh Maucieri lead the way with one goal and one assist, Dane Hirst picked up two assists tonight, while Merek Pipes stopped 25/27 shots for the win. 

The Stampeders were coming off a six day break and were looking to keep their recent success rolling. 

The opening twenty minutes was back and forth action between the Flyers and the Stampeders, but neither team could find the score sheet. Swan Valley mustered up just four shots in the opening frame, but had several shots deflected or blocked. The scoreless first period came to a close, with the Flyers leading 9-4 in the shot department. 

Matt Osadick opened the scoring, snapping home his 22nd of the year at 6:53 of the second period. Winkler’s Colton Harder tied the game, scoring just second of the year at 12:46. Josh Maucieri regained the Stampeders lead, beating Britt League and grabbing his 14th of the year at 13:27. The middle frame closed out with the Stamps leading 2-1 and the shots 18-13 in favour of Winkler. 

Winkler’s Josh Kagen tied the game beating Merek Pipes just 1:26 into the third period. Josh Tripp scores his 31st of the year just 11 seconds later and the Stampeders held on for a 3-2 win over the Winkler Flyers. Final shots on goal were 32-27 for Swan Valley. 

The Winkler Flyers power play went 0/4 while Swan Valley went 0/3. 

The win moves the Stamps to 35-10-3-2 on the season, and extends their win streak to six games. 

The next action for Stampeders will be at home Friday February 15th against the 1st place Portage Terriers. The Swan River Kinsmen have guaranteed a 50/50 take home prize of $1000. Tickets are available at Atkinson’s Sports Excellence or at the door.
