Stamps beat Portage 4-0

The Swan Valley Stampeders returned to home ice Saturday night as they tamed the 17-6-1-1 Portage Terriers.

The Stampeders came out strong in the opening frame taking the play to the Terriers. Stampeder Captain Keaton Jameson opened the scoring at 7:22 beating former Stampeder goaltender Lasse Peterson. The two clubs battled back and forth but it was Keaton Jameson again who found the back of the net, picking up his 8th of the season on the Power Play with just 16 secs remaining in the period. The Stamps lead 2-0 after 20 minutes of play and a commanding 12-5 lead in the shot count.

The Stampeders continued their strong play all over the ice in the middle frame. Gimli Manitoba product, Noah Basarab moved the Stamps ahead 3-0 as he slid one through Peterson’s five hole at 12:24 on a great heads up pass by Keaton Jameson. Trevor Mann scored at 15:31, and Brett Evans continued his solid play in net, stopping all 18 shots he had faced so far. At the end of 40 mins the Stamps were leading 4-0 with the shots 21-18 in favour of Swan.

Both clubs continued to battle hard through out the 3rd period. Brett Evans put on a show for the crowd tonight stopping all 37 shots he faced and earning his 2nd shutout of the year. The Stampeder’s dominating performance tonight earned them a 4-0 win over the Portage Terriers and are now on a 3 – game winning streak.

Assistant Coach Darren Webster said “The 3rd period was a dominating performance by Swan Valley net minder Brett Evans as he shut the door on several high quality chances by the Terriers.”

Head Coach and GM Taurean White said “I was very happy with the effort tonight. Brett Evans bailed us out a few times and the guys responded for him. I thought our special teams came up big as well.”

Noah Basarab was tonight’s 3rd star with 1 goal and 1 assist, Keaton Jameson who scored 2 and added an assist was tonight’s 2nd star, while Brett Evans 37 save performance earned him tonights 1st star of the game.

The next action for your Swan Valley Stampeders will be Sunday November 26th against the travelling Winkler Flyers. Puck drop is at 7:00pm.
