Stamps come up short in Virden

The Stampeders headed south to Virden on Friday evening looking for their first win of the season at Tundra Oil & Gas Place against the Virden Oil Caps.

The Oil Caps got off to a quick start with goals from Week 1 player of the week Tyler Kirkup and Jeran Knorr in the 1st 5 minutes.  After settling down, Swan Valley was able to pull within one before the end of the first, when Shane Roulette was able to bury his 3rd of the season with 2:26 remaining in the period.  Assists went to Trevar Mann and Dane Hirst.

The 2nd period saw the two teams trade chances early with both Brett Evans and Virdens Dalton Dosch up to the challenge between the pipes.  Virden was able to extend the lead to 2, when Kirklan Lycar was able to capitalize on the Power Play at 16:21 with Dawson Waddell off for tripping.

Coming into the 3rd down 2, the Stamps responded with their strongest period, outshooting Virden and controlling most of the play.  In the end, the games 1st star, Dosch was excellent in goal with 41 saves before Kyle Salaway was able to put the game away with an empty netter.

Swan Valley’s 3 game road stretch to start the season concludes Sunday afternoon in Waywayseecappo, before Wednesdays home opener against the same Waywayseeccappo Wolverines.

Tickets for Wednesdays game can be purchased at Atkinson Sports Excellence or at the door on Wednesday night.  Come out and show your support.
