Winkler Snaps Stamps Win Streak With 3-2 OT Win

WINKLER SNAPS STAMPS WIN STREAK WITH 3-2 OT WIN….

The Swan Valley Stampeders win streak was snapped at six games Friday October 18th, losing to the Winkler Flyers 3-2 in overtime.

The Stampeders clawed and scratched their way back twice Friday night, getting goals from Trevor Schroder and Nathan Carl, but it wasn’t enough as the Winkler Flyers would skate to a 3-2 overtime victory.

The Winkler Flyers jumped out to an early lead as Griffin Leonard beat Michael Davis at 6:53 of the opening frame.

The rough stuff would take over in the second period as both teams were getting to know each other. Leyson Coleman and Sullivan Shortreed would try to get their teams fired up as the two would engage in a dance at the midway point of the second period. Scoring was tough to come by tonight as both teams were playing a tight checking game.

Trevor Schroder would spin off a defender and rip one blocker side at 12:21 of the third. Jayden McCarthy would let a shot go from the point that found its way in just over two minutes later. With the net empty, the Stampeder’s pressed and eventually found the equalizer as Nathan Carl let a floater go from the point that found its way in at 19:07, forcing overtime.

Jayden McCarthy would score just over three minutes into the overtime period, and the Winkler Flyers defeated the Stamps’ 3-2.

Despite tonight’s overtime loss, the Stampeder’s have picked up points in their last eight games, but have slipped in the standings. They now sit in fourth place.

The Swan Valley Stampeder and the Winkler Flyers will face one another tomorrow night at the Centennial Arena in a rematch. Puck drop takes place at 7:30pm.
