Every Monday we will be awarding three players who had a big week and giving them stars. We will be doing this week-to-week with points being collected throughout the season. The top three players will be recognized and presented an award during our final home game of the season.
The Stampeders had a very busy week, playing four games in six nights. The Stampeders hosted The Blizzard Tuesday Dec. 5 at the Centennial Arena but, didn’t get the result they were looking for, falling 3-1.
The Stampeders then travelled south for three games in three nights against the Winnipeg Freeze, Niverville and Winkler. Swan was able to go 1-2 on the weekend and finally broke through on their offensive game Friday night, they posted up eight goals against the Freeze. It was downhill after Friday night’s win, losing the next two games 4-3 (Niverville) and 6-2 (Winker). The Stampeders simply ran out of gas Sunday night and the score certainly showed.
Trade Freeze | So, a blunder on my part to an earlier story, apparently the rules had changed a bit on how rosters can be structured and as a result the Dec. 1 cut down doesn’t exist. The Trade freeze for teams before the Christmas break was Sunday and the Stampeders made a pair of trades. First, Head Coach and General Manger Barry Wolff traded 20-year-old forward Jakob Jones to the Winkler Flyers for future considerations. Wolff, then traded 17-year-old forward Owen Warnick to the Selkirk Steelers for two draft picks (2nd & 4th) in the 2024 draft, plus a PDF. The trade deadline is January 10, 2024.
Three star point system is as follows:
1st Star = 3 points
2nd Star = 2 points
3rd Star = 1 point
